Zalo는 베트남의 IT 기업 VNG가 소유하고 있으며, 베트남 내 활성 사용자만 7,500만 명이 넘습니다. 호텔 리셉션 직원, Sapa의 홈스테이 호스트, Hoi An의 여행사 운영자, 주문을 받는 길거리 음식점 상인 등 대다수의 베트남 사람들에게 Zalo는 필수 앱입니다. 베트남 전화번호와 연동되며 무료 음성 통화, 그룹 채팅, 소셜 피드 기능을 갖춘 WhatsApp과 Facebook Messenger의 하이브리드 형태라고 생각하면 됩니다.
숙소 연락처에 번호가 적혀 있다면, WhatsApp이 아닌 Zalo로 연락하라는 뜻으로 이해하는 것이 좋습니다. 닌빈(Ninh Binh)의 가족 운영 숙소, Ha Long Bay의 보트 투어, Hoi An 구시가지의 양복점 등 많은 소규모 업체들은 WhatsApp을 전혀 확인하지 않습니다. WhatsApp으로 메시지를 보냈는데 답장이 없다면, 같은 번호로 Zalo를 시도해 보세요.
WhatsApp은 다음과 같은 제한적이지만 실질적인 상황에서 유용합니다.
주로 중고급 숙소에 머물며 OTA(온라인 여행사)를 통해 예약한다면 WhatsApp을 주 메신저로 사용해도 괜찮습니다. 하지만 현지 상인, 운전기사, 가족 운영 숙소와 직접 소통해야 하는 상황에서는 WhatsApp이 걸림돌이 될 수 있습니다.

식당 예약 문의: 하노이나 Saigon(사이공)의 대형 식당은 인스타그램 DM이나 이메일을 받을 수도 있지만, 중저가 현지 식당은 Zalo나 전화 통화만이 유일한 소통 창구입니다.
워킹 푸드 투어 또는 쿠킹 클래스 참여: 많은 소규모 업체들이 고객 관리를 Zalo 그룹 채팅을 통해 진행합니다.
