What it is
VinWonders Phu Quoc is a massive theme park on the northwest coast of Phu Quoc island, operated by Vingroup — the same conglomerate behind VinFast cars and Vincom malls. It opened in 2014 as Vinpearl Land Phu Quoc, rebranded to VinWonders in 2020, and has expanded steadily since. The park sits inside the larger Phu Quoc United Center complex at Bai Dai beach, covering roughly 50 hectares of rides, an aquarium, a water park, and themed zones.
It's not Disneyland. But for Southeast Asia, it's a surprisingly polished operation — and it's one of the few reasons families with kids specifically fly to Phu Quoc rather than just defaulting to Da Nang or Nha Trang (냐짱 / 芽庄 / ニャチャン).
Why travelers go
Three reasons, mostly:
-
The aquarium. One of the largest in Vietnam (베트남 / 越南 / ベトナム). The underwater tunnel is genuinely impressive — sharks, rays, and massive groupers overhead. Worth the visit alone if you've got kids.
-
A full day off the beach. Phu Quoc (푸꾸옥 / 富国岛 / フーコック)'s beaches are the main draw, but after three days of sand you might want variety. VinWonders fills an entire day without effort.
-
The cable car. The Hon Thom cable car (technically a separate ticket/attraction nearby) connects the park area to Hon Thom island — at nearly 8 km, it held the record for the world's longest over-sea cable car. The views across the water are worth it even if you skip the park itself.
Best time to visit
Phu Quoc's dry season runs November through April. Visit VinWonders on a weekday during this window and you'll walk onto most rides. Weekends and Vietnamese public holidays — especially Tet and summer break (June–August) — pack the park with domestic tourists. Queue times jump from 5 minutes to 40+.
If you're here in rainy season (May–October), mornings are usually dry. The park opens at 09:00; arrive at opening and you can cover most attractions before afternoon downpours roll in around 14:00–15:00.
How to get there
Phu Quoc has an international airport (PQC) with direct flights from Saigon (55 minutes), Hanoi (2 hours 10 minutes), and several regional cities. Budget airlines like VietJet and Bamboo typically price Saigon–Phu Quoc round trips at 1,200,000–2,500,000 VND depending on season.
From the airport to VinWonders is about 25 km north — roughly 35 minutes by car. Options:
- Grab/taxi: 180,000–250,000 VND one way.
- Hotel shuttle: Most resorts in the Bai Dai/Ganh Dau area offer free transfers. Ask when booking.
- Motorbike: Rentals run 150,000–200,000 VND/day islandwide. The road north is paved and flat. Parking at VinWonders is free.

What to do inside
The park divides into six themed zones. Here's what's actually worth your time:
Adventure Zone
The roller coasters here are mid-tier by international standards but solid for Vietnam. The "Dragon's Breath" suspended coaster has decent speed and a water-splash finale. Lines are short on weekdays — often walk-on.
Underwater World
The aquarium houses over 30,000 marine creatures. The main tunnel takes about 15 minutes to walk through slowly. There's a touch pool for kids with starfish and sea cucumbers. Penguin feeding happens at 10:00 and 15:00 — crowds gather early.
Water Park
A separate wet zone with wave pool, lazy river, and a handful of speed slides. Bring swimwear or buy overpriced sets at the gift shop (300,000–500,000 VND). Lockers cost 50,000 VND.
European Village
Mostly photo ops — faux-German and faux-Dutch architecture for Instagram. The carousel is fine for small children. Skip this if you're short on time.
Folk Culture Village
Traditional Vietnamese architecture, craft demonstrations, and occasional performances. If you're interested in water puppetry, there's a small theater here with shows throughout the day (check the schedule board at the entrance).
Where to eat
Inside the park, food courts sell Vietnamese and Western options at marked-up prices. Expect 80,000–150,000 VND for a meal. A bowl of pho inside runs about 95,000 VND — roughly double street price. The seafood BBQ stall near the aquarium exit is the best value inside.
Better move: eat before or after. Along the road to VinWonders (DT45), several local seafood restaurants serve grilled "goi cuon (고이꾸온 / 越南春卷 / ゴイクオン)" rolls, steamed clams, and fresh fish for half the park prices. Quan Oc Thanh, about 3 km south of the entrance, does excellent grilled scallops with peanut and scallion oil for 60,000 VND a plate.
Where to stay
The Phu Quoc United Center complex includes Vinpearl hotels ranging from 2,000,000 to 8,000,000 VND/night. Staying on-site means early park access (30 minutes before general admission) and free shuttle loops.
Budget alternative: guesthouses in Duong Dong town, 20 km south, start at 400,000 VND/night. You'll need transport to the park but save significantly on accommodation. The trade-off is real — an early start means a 06:30 Grab if you want to arrive at opening.

Practical tips
- Tickets: Adult entry is 880,000 VND at the gate; book online for 750,000 VND. Kids under 1m tall enter free. The combo ticket including the Hon Thom cable car costs around 1,100,000 VND.
- Time needed: 5–7 hours covers everything comfortably. The water park alone eats 2 hours.
- Bring: Sunscreen, a refillable water bottle (free refill stations exist), and a dry bag if you're doing the water park then returning to dry rides.
- Skip: The 4D cinema. It's dated and the queue isn't worth the 8-minute experience.
- Cash vs. card: Most stalls inside accept card or VinID app. A few food vendors are cash-only — carry at least 200,000 VND in small bills.
Common mistakes
Arriving after 11:00. The park closes at 21:00 but most outdoor rides shut down at 17:30. Arrive at 09:00 to get full value from your ticket.
Skipping the cable car. Many visitors treat it as optional. The 15-minute ride over turquoise water with island views below is arguably better than anything inside the park gates.
Not checking the show schedule. The fountain light show runs at 20:00 nightly and the folk performances happen at fixed times. Grab a schedule at the entrance or miss them entirely.
Bottom line
VinWonders won't blow away anyone who's been to Universal or Europa-Park. But for a day in Phu Quoc — especially with kids or when you need a beach break — it delivers solid entertainment at a reasonable price by international theme park standards. Pair it with the cable car ride and a seafood dinner outside the complex, and that's a full day well spent.
